PeaZip 2.1

7z extract free rar utility

PeaZip free archiver utility is a portable, open source file and archive manager.

PeaZip is cross platform and runs on 32 and 64 bit Windows (9x, 2000, XP, Vista) and Linux. It supports handling many archive and compression formats:
  • create: 7Z, ARC, BZ2, GZ, PAQ/LPAQ, PEA, QUAD, TAR, UPX, ZIP;

  • open: ACE, ARJ, CAB, DEB, ISO, LHA, RAR, RPM and more archive types...

PeaZip allows to edit, save and restore archive's layouts; apply powerful multiple filters to archive's content; handle multiple archives at once; export job definition as command line; encrypt with AES256 etc.
Other features: robust file copy, split/join files (file span), secure file deletion, compare, checksum and hash files, system benchmark, generate random passwords and keyfiles.

Notes for users portable 7z extract free rar utility 7-zip

You can simply unpack PeaZip portable in the path you prefer and use it, even on the network or on removable devices as USB sticks; it will not modify the host system.
On Windows systems the setup of PeaZip installable needs to run with administrative privileges, otherwise the program will install correctly for all but the filetype associations which could not be set.
On Linux systems, if missing libraries are reported installing PeaZip or the first time you run peazip binary (you can launch it from a console for detailed feedback), please follow your package manager instruction to install them. Usually missing libraries are standard and widely available gtk/gtk related components (like libgdk_pixbuf).
While PeaZip's 64 bit packages are meant for 64 bit systems only, PeaZip's 32 bit packages can be used on 64 bit Windows or Linux systems (for Linux, omit architecture check for 32 bit installable packages or use _portable packages); 32 bit backend binaries can be freely replaced with 64 bit counterparts (if available) for performance optimization.
See documentation (and FreeDesktop_integration folder in Linux packages) for hints about integration of PeaZip in the desktop environment (Gnome, KDE, Windows): file associations, start menu, service/context menus, SendTo...
PeaZip UNACE plugin plugin is excluded from the base package and is not hosted on SourceForge because it is (royalty free) closed source software. Binaries in "standalone" UNACE plugin packages should go in peazip/res/unace/ path.

Release notes open source free rar linux 7z utility

In release 2.1 peazip becomes a general purpose file and archive manager, allowing to manage items both in the filesystem and in archives.
The file manager allow robust file move/copy operations, quick or secure deletion, file hashing or comparison and many other handy functions.
For Windows platforms, it is now possible to drag and drop items from application to the system through a custom function which doesn't need to copy files to system's temporary folder on drag&drop operation, allowing faster execution and avoiding to leave tracks on unwanted paths.
Encryption's keying can now optionally benefit of the use of keyfiles for any supported format, enhancing security against dictionary and some social engineering attacks.
Keyfiles (of any size) are hashed with SHA256 and the Base64-encoded (RFC 4648) hash is pre-pended to the password; archives encrypted with use of keyfiles by PeaZip can be opened by any other archive manager following this convention or simply calculating the hash and prepending it to the password.

      • Added support for LZMA archives; currently supported formats: 71 extensions grouped in 43 families;
      • Improved support for large archives: if browsing takes too much time/memory (customisable amount), it stops allowing the user to narrow the selection using in-archive search and filter functions;
      • Removed winxpstyle.lpk dependency to allow project's build with standard out-of-the-box Lazarus install
      • Updated W.E. library with util_2008-03-30 package
      • Updated 7z backend to 4.58
      • (Windows) "Run as different user" (Tools) to start the application with alternate credentials and environment
      • (Windows) "System tools" submenu (Tools): access to system's defrag, disk cleanup, disk management, control panel, computer management and task manager
      • (Windows) Extraction by drag and drop from application to system (requires Address bar to be let enabled in file explorer); this custom drag and drop function doesn't need to copy files to temp folder on drag to system operations
      • Archive browser interface transformed in general purpose file manager (navigate in archive and in filesystem) interface
        • File tools menu featured in file browser interface
        • Robust file/folder copy through system's robocopy (Vista and 2008 Server, xcopy on previous systems back to Windows 2000)
      • Startup interface can be chosen in Settings (file/archive browser, archive creation main control panel)
      • Archive browser autoswitches to flat view mode (7z supported types) if needed.
      • Allows use of keyfiles for all formats supporting encryption: prepend to password the SHA256 hash of the keyfile (no size limit) encoded in Base64 (RFC 4648)
        • note: archives encrypted with keyfile can be extracted, providing the keyfile, by PeaZip or any application using the same convention, or simply entering the hash as part of the password
